Growing Up…

Brandon, my son, started kindergarten today and it was one of those moments where I looked at him and could see hope, love, excitement and even a little nervousness flow from him.  He was so excited that yesterday morning he woke us up by saying, “I am soooo excited for kindergarten!”

I got to thinking what Brandon will  be when he grows up and how will God use him.  There is so much potential from the life of a 5 year old…

I remember being asked the question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?”  Well I had always wanted to be a civil engineer since I was five, except those few years (10-12 years old) that it looked like a budding career playing baseball might be the case.  I was willing to sacrifice building bridges 😉  Well now I am building bridges of another sort, teens and families to Jesus.  Where I thought I would end up, what I wanted to be when I grew up, God had other plans and I am so glad He did!  He is still training me and teaching me as I “grow up” in Him!

So when we think about where our lives have taken us, are we proud of the course we have taken?  Did we follow the path that Jesus laid out for us or did we choose something else?  Are we growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus or something else?

Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)
“So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding.  Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.”

Let us never think we have “grown up” spiritually.  We should always be growing more and more in Jesus!  I know that I don’t have all the answers that I would like to have but I trust that Jesus will show me how to live this life for His glory!  Growing up in Jesus and trusting him brings hope, love, excitement and a little nervousness to my life just like Brandon on his first day of kindergarten.
