This past weekend around 60 students and adults embarked on a journey that I think for most of us was life changing! We were in Grand Rapids for our annual Snowball Retreat. This years theme was REVEAL and yes God did!
During our Saturday night session we talked about how we are God’s masterpiece…
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. ~ Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
…and how sometimes we hold on to things like thinking we just aren’t good enough for God in many different areas. So we store them inside us to keep reminding us that we can never be what God intends us to be.
But we can be free of the ugliness of life if we just place it in the hands of Him who loves us unconditionally. Jesus came so that we may have life and realize that we are more than what society or other people try and tell us that we are. We are a masterpiece that God has created!
The students then wrote out things that were keeping them from being that masterpiece of God on a piece of paper. When they were ready to let go of these and allow Jesus to transform these areas of their life, they came and places them in my hands as I prayed. This was a symbolic way to hand it over to God.
These are some of the things they wrote…
Anxiety, Jealously, Self-worth, Doubt, Friends, Popularity, Fear,
Judgement, Selfishness, Scared, Sports, Bad Habits, Depression,
Self-hatred, Sin, Fear of the Unknown, Feelings, Lack of Confidence,
What people think of me, Myself, Electronics / T.V., My mind, Time,
Courage, Strength, Answers, Past mistakes, Accepting Forgiveness,
Failing, Frustrations, Comforts, Anorexia, Pain, Being Broken, Hurt,
Family Life, Laziness, Future, Insecurities, Acceptance,
Negativity, Sexual Sin, Busyness, Pride, Fit In, Trusting
These are all thing that they gave to Jesus, things holding them back from the life they can have. Will you join me in praying that these students don’t try and grab it back…that God will continue to REVEAL and transform these areas of their lives? Will you reach out to students wherever you are and LOVE them no matter what. Be Jesus! God move in a mighty way through your people!
